Artist of the week

Friday dedicated to: The Radio Dept.

Three Swedish guys who started their adventures in 1995, released their first album in 2003 called, Lesser Matters.

With this album, managed to make a tribute to the dreampop without falling into the sin of the cheap copy. Quietly, with electrified guitars, but played as if there were a baby sleeping in the room and with a point of magic that you have or do not have, this disc is mandatory listening!

The Radio Dept. seem to follow, somehow, a pattern, the pattern of those bands which seems that they sing to you, making you notice the nobility of defeat or the strange beauty of solitude. No doubt, this is, of their three albums, which I have most enjoyed, forgetting my weightlessness…

Their second album, Piet Grief (2006) which was born a new style with them that, halfway between the dreampop shoegazy and the Orthodox indiepop, they introduced rhythm boxes, delicious keyboard melodies and a distinctive vocal treatment quilting between all these vibrant notes and chords guitar perfectly treaties.

Subsequently they produced, Clinging to a Scheme (2010), which is good, but… is that but that fails. (personal opinion)

The song of the video Strange things will happen, it is included in their first album. Which is part of the OST of a beautiful film called Bon Appétit.

I have never understood very well the meaning of the song, if it is a promise of love or a proposal to pass the penalty by the loss. But it is those songs to dance alone, after a bad time. It is these perfect rare songs, perfect for dancing with a penalty.

Best regards and happy weekend!

Viernes dedicado a: The Radio Dept.
